Canada busy sending back Bush-dodgers



The flood of American liberals sneaking across the border into Canada
has intensified in the past week, sparking calls for increased patrols
to stop the illegal immigration.

The re-election of President Bush is prompting the exodus among
left-leaning citizens who fear they'll soon be required to hunt, pray
and agree with Bill O'Reilly.

Canadian border farmers say it's not uncommon to see dozens of sociology
professors, animal rights activists, lawyers and Unitarians crossing
their fields at night.

"I went out to milk the cows the other day, and there was a Hollywood
producer huddled in the barn," said Manitoba farmer Red Greenfield,
whose acreage borders North Dakota. The producer was cold, exhausted and
hungry. "He asked me if I could spare a latte and some free-range
chicken. When I said I didn't have any, he left. Didn't even get a
chance to show him my screenplay, eh?"

In an effort to stop the illegal aliens, Greenfield erected higher
fences, but the liberals scaled them. So he tried installing speakers
that blare Rush Limbaugh across the fields. "Not real effective," he
said. "The liberals still got through, and Rush annoyed the cows so much
they wouldn't give milk."

Officials are particularly concerned about smugglers who meet liberals
near the Canadian border, pack them into Volvo station wagons, drive
them across the border and leave them to fend for themselves. "A lot of
these people are not prepared for rugged conditions," an Ontario border
patrolman said. "I found one carload without a drop of
drinking water. They did have a nice little Napa Valley cabernet, though."

When liberals are caught, they're sent back across the border, often
wailing loudly that they fear retribution from conservatives. Rumors
have been circulating about the Bush administration establishing
re-education camps in which liberals will be forced to drink domestic
beer and watch NASCAR. In the days since the election, liberals have
turned to sometimes ingenious ways of crossing the border. Some have
taken to posing as senior citizens on bus trips to buy cheap Canadian
prescription drugs. After catching a half-dozen young vegans disguised
in powdered wigs, Canadian immigration authorities began stopping buses
and quizzing the supposed senior-citizen passengers. "If they can't
identify the accordion player on The Lawrence Welk Show, we get
suspicious about their age," an official said. Canadian citizens have
complained that the illegal immigrants are creating an organic-broccoli
shortage and renting all the good Susan Sarandon movies.

"I feel sorry for American liberals, but the Canadian economy just can't
support them," an Ottawa resident said. "How many lawyers and
art-history majors does one country need?"

In an effort to ease tensions between the United States and Canada, Vice
President Dick Cheney met with the Canadian ambassador and pledged that
the administration would take steps to reassure liberals, a source close
to Cheney said. "We're going to have some Peter, Paul & Mary concerts.
And we might put some endangered species on postage stamps. The
president is determined to reach out."

BOGOTA, Colombia -- Colombia's main rebel group asked followers to mount
an assassination attempt against President George W. Bush during his
visit to Colombia last week, Defense Minister Jorge Uribe said. There
was no evidence Saturday that rebels even tried to organize such an attack.

Uribe told reporters late Friday that informants said the Revolutionary
Armed Forces of Colombia, known as the FARC, told followers to attack
Bush during his four-hour visit in the seaside city of Cartagena last
Monday, where he met with Colombian President Alvaro Uribe.

The defense minister, who is no relation to the president, said security
forces were on full alert during the visit. About 15,000 Colombian
troops and police, along with U.S. troops and Secret Service agents
provided security. There was no indication Bush's life was ever in danger.

Uribe did not say where the informants had heard about the attack.

The Secret Service did not comment on security details, as is its policy.

"We have full confidence in the fine work of the Secret Service and
their work with security officials on the ground when the President
travels," White House spokesman Jim Morrell said Saturday.

The FARC has declared U.S. troops in Colombia military targets. The
troops are training local forces and providing logistics and planning
assistance for military operations against the rebels.

However, the rebels never publicly declared Bush a target during his
first-ever visit as president to Colombia. Bush visited Colombia after
attending a summit in Chile.



Incidentally, the FARC, while it has Communist roots, is hardly
"Marxist" today, and hasn't been for years. What it is is a fairly well
organized group of criminals. Don't you get books and newspapers down
there in Stupidville?

Colombia reveals Bush assassination plot
A top Colombian official says US President George W Bush was targeted for
assassination by Colombia's biggest Marxist rebel group this week when he
visited the Caribbean port city of Cartagena.

Colombian Defence Secretary, Jorge Alberto Uribe, says informants and
various sources had indicated "that various members of the FARC had been
instructed by their leaders to make an attempt against President Bush".

He would not reveal details of the threat.

The US Secret Service, which protects the President, says it "does not
comment or release information regarding our protective intelligence and
protective methods".

"We do not discuss any alleged threats to our protectees," said Secret
Service spokesman Jonathan Cherry.

White House spokesman Jim Morrell also declined to comment on the plot.

"We have full confidence in the fine work of the Secret Service and their
work with the security officials on the ground when the President travels,"
he said.

The 17,000-strong Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), fighting a
40 year guerrilla war against the state, has long accused the United States
of backing business interests in the Andean country while ignoring the 60
per cent of the population that lives in poverty.

There was heavy security in Cartagena when Mr Bush visited the city on
Monday on his way home from the APEC forum in Chile.

Military helicopters packed with armed soldiers flew over President Bush's
motorcade while naval vessels kept watch offshore.

Many shops were shuttered.

The FARC has made many attempts against the life of President Alvaro Uribe,
one of few conservative South American presidents with strong ties to
Washington.

Mr Uribe, whose father was killed resisting kidnap by the FARC in the 1980s,
narrowly survived a car bomb attack by the FARC during his 2002 presidential
campaign.

The last US president to visit Colombia was Bill Clinton, whose trip to
Cartagena was marked by the seizure of bomb-making materials from a house
six blocks from a building he was visiting.

Mr Bush used his four-hour trip to solidify his alliance with Mr Uribe, whom
he considers an ally in the effort to curtail the illegal drug trade and
fight terrorism.

Colombia produces about 90 per cent of the cocaine consumed in the United
States and 50 per cent of the heroin.

I can see that. They grew in prominence through treacherous acts (namely
kidnapping for ransom, thievery, murder, and cocaine production). The term
"Democrat" certainly does fit them.

Nevertheless, you're probably right. Today, they are driven by money rather
than politics...so the term Marxist (although that's what they were in the
beginning) probably doesn't suit them. But they're certainly terrorists. I
*would* call them "Democratic terrorists", but then people would confuse
them with the ACLU and the Rainbow/PUSH coalition.
