You may want to have her rethink the AMERIKA concept.
Later, Tom I agree. You won't always have a chance to explain the meaning before somebody makes a negative assumption. On topic/off topic: She could always call the boat "Al-Merica". When we were kids we were taught that the western continents were named for Amerigo Vespucci, a map maker, (He would have named it Vespuccia.....but doesn't matter because it isn't true). When the Templar Knights excavated under the old Jewish Temple during the (forget the #) Crusade, they found Islamic documents that referred to continents beyond the great western ocean and that called the land masses "Al-Merica". This knowledge was retained by the Templar Knights until the "official" western-Euro discovery of he continents by the Spanish in 1492. Osama bin Ladin would like to see the original name reapplied. :-( Using the name Amerika sounds very eastern-Euro, socialist, etc. Using the original name, "Al-Merica" would be *extremely* ill advised at the moment. Why not have somebody in the family simply change the spelling of their name from a "k" to a "c", and go for a lot less controversy? Back on topic: As far as the JSJ goes, that could cause trouble as well. Some bunch of yahoo kids will think that's an open invite: Jet Ski Jump |
