The story I heard went two ways, the burglar broke a window or the burglar
tried to come in through a doggie door. When the homeowners come home they
see the dog chocking and scratching at this mouth. When they go over the
open the dogs mouth, they see something stuck in his throat. When they
reach in to pull it out is a thumb.

Speaking of doggie doors, one of my engineers has a doggie door to let his
dogs in and out of the house to a fenced in area outside. He forgot to close
the gate on the outside fence.

About 4 AM, his wife woke him up to a real powerful stench. The dog got out,
managed to have a losing encounter with a skunk, came back in and rubbed its
face all over the carpet, sofa, chairs, etc. trying to rub off the spray. He
had to take a day off work to try to clean the furniture and carpeting. Even
with his best efforts, some things are headed for the dump.
