I've seen a picture of the three middle-aged school teachers. Their white
t-shirts all had "Protect Our Civil Liberties" printed on them, and one had the U.S. flag in addition to the words. There was nothing "obscene" about the shirts. Anybody attending a Bush rally and expressing a sentiment that civil liberties should be protected obviously did not fit in with the general sentiment of the crowd. Because we were attacked on September 11, 2001, we should be willing to surrender our civil liberties to the federal government. This will make it much easier for the fedgov to track down terrorists here in the US, as well as silence or harras political opposition. Anybody who is a loyal, patriotic, lockstep American perfectly conforming to Bush's wishes would never say anything smacking of the tiniest bit of dissent, anyway, so what really good, loyal, patriotic, lockstep American needs all those silly freedoms in the Bill of Rights? All we need is the 2nd Amendment, and to heck with the rest. |
