Also Sprach Gould 0738 :
Some of the other numbers also don't make "cents." 20 I/0 boats under
10'? 177 inboard boats under 10'? I'm pretty sure I've ever seen an
under 10' boat with an I/O or inboard.

Most likely jetskis.

Don't they get registered under the jet drive category?

There is some crossover. When a dealer registers a boat with the state, there
are some categories for propulsion. Some of these obviously get mismarked,
maybe the hourly help filling out the form for the dealer just checks
"inboard" on everything, or what not. I am pretty sure that's why so few
sailboats show up in the statistics- there is a "sail" category, but a lot of
people probably just check off "inboard".

I'll send you the link to the site. (Shhhh!) :-)

huh? the state of wash doesn't hire high school grads in its license dept?

Some of the sailboats get reported in the "inboard" category.

Most of the sailboats have inboard engines.

Yes, there is some sloppy box checking going on, but its at the dealer level.

However, new sailboats are sold at sailboat only dealers (a dealer who wishes
to sell both new sailboats and new powerboats opens two separate dealerships,
otherwise he has buyers for neither boat) and you would think that a new
sailboat dealer would know what he is selling.

It looks like nobody is buying much of anything but small boats and a handful
of extremely high priced yachts.
