Help!! - Volvo Spark Plug Replacement

I'm a new boat owner - I'm pretty handy with a wrench - but I'm having a
tough time getting to the spark plugs in order to change them on my Volvo
5.0 FI. The manifold housing is in the way. Is there a special tool someone
can recommend? I've tried the standard 5/8 spark plug socket with jointed
extensions and the like - it appears to be just too tight. Should I remove
the manifolds and replace the gaskets?

Help!!

Thank you in advance.....

I don't believe that there is reason to remove the manifolds. you could try
a 5/8 socket with universal swivel. You can see what they look like by going
to harborfreight.com and enter search word socket and look for the swivel
socket. you can buy them anywhere but look here to see what might do the
job. do you have a picture so we can see the problem your having. I had a
lincoln continental and it took like 2 hours to get the right front spark
plug out. so you can do it if you stay with it and find the right tool. good
luck. show us a picture.

Try one of those stamped-steel snowmobile tool kit type plug wrenches
with the sliding breaker bar. You may have to turn-n-slide several
times, but they do get into smaller spaces.

I don't want to dis anyone's tools, but... I have noticed that my snap-on
sockets get into a lot of places that other sockets won't. I know the
clearances between my merc manifolds and the plugs is mighty thin. I can
see how not every socket would fit.
