Kerry has a 2 percentage point edge in Florida and the candidates are tied in New Hampshire,....... I've been in NH several times over the past couple of weeks, and had lunch with a number of folks who live around the state. They all get hit by pollsters regularly, and to a man they agree that it is a fun game to tease the pollsters and manipulate the trends to keep the campaign dollars flowing until they run out. Most folks I talk to up there seem to be Bush supporters, but they vary their poll answers. The game is to keep the state within a few percentage points so both campaigns will continue to spend big bucks on local advertisers, hotels, restaurants, transportation, etc., etc. All politics is local [Tip O'Neill], and enlightened self-interest shall rule the day. Professional pollsters and professional poll employees anticipate such folk, recognize when they have one, and discount them in the tallying. A few "ringers" may slip through, but not many. Exactly how? |
