I need to redo the o-rings on my lower unit. I'm getting some milky
looking mixture out when I change the lower unit oil, so I know water is getting in. Two questions: Is there a common single o-ring that causes this or do I just need to replace them all? If so, can someone tell me what the sizes of all the o-rings are? I don't want to buy the kit of o-rings that I'm finding at most of the repair shops. Their price seems high for just a bag of o-rings... I might be able to find the individual o-rings myself for a lot cheaper if I knew what size and quantity they are. Thanks. |

There are 2 ways how water can get in: 1. around the propeller shaft 2. around the drive shaft (from the top) Matt Thanks Matt. I've worked on cars a whole lot but I've never had one of these babies apart. Probably not too different except for the seals are just o-rings. I'll check both the drive shaft seals and the prop seal. Thanks. its technically simple to do however some motors require special tools (or hours of fiddling) and sometimes parts are rusted/ceased. With a pressure test you can find out where it actually leaks. Matt |
