Without providing the context, that quote makes no sense at all.

I thought that was what people should do when
you're in office, and you help a lot of rich people."
-Ben Barnes, a former lieutenant governor of Texas,

Maybe this will help:

Of course it helps...which is precisely why I asked Jim to provide the
context for his quote. By itself, the quote that Jim cited makes no

sense.

Now it does.

Did you ever stop to think that it was ONLY you, who didn't get it?

I don't visit kerry-for-President websites...so why would I happen to
stumble upon Barnes' statement? The mainstream press didn't cover it

until
Kerry put it on his website. Without posting the comments in their
entirety, the little snippet that Jim posted makes no sense.

In any context, the statement that "the duty of an elected official is
to help rich people" is clearly offensive.

You didn't say anything about "the duty of an elected official".

You said:

"I thought that was what people should do when
you're in office, and you help a lot of rich people"

By itself, that statement makes no sense.

Again, you're the only one it doesn't make sense to.

"Only one"? You mean all of the voices in your head agree with you and not
me?

Sure I do. And when you finally post something in plain English, I'll have
no trouble understanding it. Keep trying though!
