Default TR - Rogue river, Oregon

Quick trip report (I'm not sure how many people enjoy them).

Wildlife:
Teeming with it. Two bears, one bald eagle, 17 deer, 1001 fish,
8 dead salmon including one being eaten by 9 turkey vultures.
Small fish stay in the shallows (where they bite your toes) probably
to avoid getting eaten by large fish further out.

Boating:
Great as usual. A flow of 2300 moved us along relatively quickly,
but gave us percolation in Coffeepot. No raft swims, 1 IK flip.

Camping:
Very competitive. Seems like there are more small parties now and
fewer large parties, resulting in greater pressure on campsites.
It was a mistake to start at Almeda Bar, though cars are safer there,
because we missed our preferred campsite.

Toilets:
Seems like the BLM has reversed its policy of removing outhouses.
There were many brand-new ones along the way. Nonetheless each group
must carry a portapotty.

Apparently the choice now is between overused campsites with toilets
and yellowjackets, and using your own toilet at less-used campsites.

Pesky bears:
Below Blossom Bar (where jetboats travel and there are many lodges)
bears seem to have taught their offspring that people have food.
Some of the lodges used to leave out garbage to attract bears for
guests to see. Some bears even get on boats to open coolers!

The electric bear fences seem to work well. They are powered by a
12V battery and use a capacitor to build up high voltage, which they
pulse about once a second. One guy brought his own bear fence,
powered by D cell batteries.
