Default Don't obey the signs at a boat show!

Our August boat show is on today. I ran into a couple who noticed me handing
out a stack of magazines. They asked if I happened to know Chuck Gould. It was
fun talking to them, as they claim they had, earlier this week, set up all
night with one of my books. Somehow, they had figured out who I am and what I
do in the actual world. Gee, for about three minutes I felt like a celebrity,
so I guess according to Andy Warhol I'm down to only 12 minutes of fame
remaining in this lifetime. :-)

But I learned one thing. Don't obey the signs at a boat show!!

I walked across the swim platform and onto the transom of a very nice boat.
I didn't see anybody on the transom, but there were four pair of shoes lined up
as neatly as you'd please.

Just above the shoes was a boldly printed red and white sign. "Please Remove
Shoes!"

Anybody who knows me realizes that I'm a stickler for following the rules. The
sign said, "Please Remove Shoes!" so, I did.

I was almost halfway down the dock with 'em when a really p-o'd guy in his
stocking feet caught up to me. :-(

((actually, the second incident never took place but it makes a good story))

I now refuse to remove my shoes! Last year at the Newport, RI boat show, I
took off my brand new $90 pair of boat shoes to go aboard a Huckins. After
inspecting the boat, I went to put on my shoes and they were gone! Someone had
stolen my shoes!
I couldn't believe it, but I had no choice but to buy another pair of shoes
from one of the exhibitors at the show!

"Listen to the live broadcast of 'Nautical Talk Radio' with Captain Lou every
Sunday afternoon from 4 - 5 (Eastern Standard Time) on the web at
www.959watd.com or if you are in Boston or Cape Cod set your radio dial to
95.9FM.

I wonder if he's the one who stole them?

Last year at the Annapolis Boat Show I noticed a couple of people going
barefoot. Solved the problem... except that their feet get filthy and
track grit onto the boats... but hey, they don't have to remove their shoes!

C'mon, Chuck, you stole THAT from the immortal Gracie Allen: Visiting a
friend in the hospital, "They said to take her flowers, so I did!"

Actually, Lloyd, I was wondering whether you took the shoes to make some
new leather hatch hinges for that gal you date, Vinyl Valerie...

(uh oh)

Gracie and I must have similarly perverted ideas of humor, with Gracie's far
better developed than mine.

D'Arcy Island
Pirate's Cove
Wallace Island
Bedwell Harbour
Sidney
Ganges

Any of those on your cruising calendar between now and Sept 1st?

Wow - all my favourites! But I won't be starting my sailing trip until
Sept 4, and I was thinking of going North (although 2 weeks in the Gulf
Islands does sound nice!)

I could always head for the Islands for the weekend of Aug 28/29, maybe
hit Wallace or D'Arcy (that's Ruxton Passage?)
