Hey,
I don't think it's a stupid idea at all. I think it's a great idea - you have to start somewhere. I am in a similar situation to you and I just bought a Catalina 25 out here in L.A.. It's big enough to do multi-day trips to Catalina and sail down to Mexico. I figured I would start small and inexpensive and work my way up to the bluewater boat of my dreams. About the price - check the Yacht World site and check what they are going for. Sounds like a good price to me. http://yachtworld.com/boats/index.html.en - Billy On 8/13/04 11:04 PM, in article 4YhTc.344$de4.87@trndny07, "curt" wrote: Hi all, I took a few sailing lessons in Miami and really enjoyed it. I have a friend that has a Catalina 22 for sail and wants $4500 USD for it. It comes with a trailer and 3 sails and a host of other equipment. Is this an okay deal? Here is what I want to do. I want to learn to sail well enough to buy a blue water boat at some point and do some blue water sailing after a few years of sailing experience or until I feel I can handle it. Hopefully from US to Ireland and Scotland. Yes, I know I need to start somewhere, so is my Catalina idea stupid? Please take it easy on this newbie. I am wanting to get started on the right course, but really have no one around that can help me here. I would be sailing the Catalina in the Sarasota area and maybe Lake Erie to start. Thanks for any thoughts, Curt |
Hey Curt, I also have a 1975 Catalina 22 for sale in Tampa. I was asking $4500, but I'll go down to $4000 obo. The trailer is only 2 years old, and the outboard is just a year older. It comes with other goodies too like a mosquito tent for the cockpit, a holding tank for the head, solar panel, etc. I've had a lot of fun with her and given her good care. I'm selling because I already have two other boats on trailers and just got married... say no more. You'd at least be welcome to e-mail me and come look at her to compare to your friend's boat. Consider checking the trailer to insure it is in good shape, they can hide a
surprising amount of rot. Other than that the 22 is a good starter boat. Consider putting it in a slip part of the time for no other reason than to get to know other sailors. I bought a Catalina 25 several years ago and met a lot of people at the marina. It turned out that I sailed crew on the bigger boats as often as I sailed my boat and as a consequence gained experience on those boats. When you finally sell the Catalina you will know what you want from experience as well as sales pamplets. Mike "Billy Hulting" wrote in message ... Hey, I don't think it's a stupid idea at all.
