My wife and I have decided to sell the lake house and buy a weekend
place on the bay (canal actually). Specifically, we are looking at Matagorda Bay and since I haven't fished salt water much in the last 20 years I haven't kept up with boats suitable for that use. Previously, I had a 19'6 Aquasport and a 21 Mako which I used in Galveston Bay and offshore but Matagorda is a much shallower bay. I would like to be able to fish somewhat shallow water (the Aquasport only drew around 10" of water) but also want to be able to go offshore (used to take it 40-60 miles out but it was not nearly as smooth and dry as the Mako). Does Aquasport still make the high quality boat they used to? I've just started looking and like the looks of SeaPro - anybody know anything about these? How about Cajun? I think they're out of business but I have a Cajun bass boat and have been pleased with it. Basically, I'm interested in a center console - around 19-22 feet, composite transom (prefer all composite structure) that will run in reasonably shallow water but still provide smooth dry ride (I know compromises are necessary). I probably will not buy until later in the year (still looking for property) and would prefer to buy late model used but I'm starting to look and would appreciate opinions on suitable boats. Besides - it would be nice to see something besides political threads for a change. Thanks in advance and I'm looking forward to hearing your opinions. |
