Newly reported Covid-19 cases in the U.S. fell to their lowest level
in nearly four months over Presidents Day weekend, and daily reported
deaths declined sharply from a recent spike.

There were more than 52,000 new cases reported for Monday, according
to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University, down from 64,938 a day
earlier and 89,727 a week earlier. The latest number was published
early Tuesday Eastern time and may be updated later in the morning.

Too bad the US couldn't get rid of Trump 6 months ago. No telling how many lives that may have saved.
===

The best time would have been 12 months ago when he was still denying
that Covid presented any risk at all. Of course his real risk was to
his incumbency which he was acutely aware of.

Wasn't that the same time Fauci was saying that the US had nothing to worry about?
===

Do you have a cite for that? I don't remember it.

"On Jan. 21 - the day the first COVID-19 case in the U.S. was confirmed - Fauci appeared on conservative Newsmax TV. “Bottom line, we don’t have to worry about this one, right?” asked Greg Kelly, the host.

Fauci said, “Obviously, you need to take it seriously and do the kind of things the (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) and the Department of Homeland Security is doing. But this is not a major threat to the people of the United States and this is not something that the citizens of the United States right now should be

worried about.”

===

Parsing his words, it seems like there's a bit of governmental double
speak going on. And of course it was still early in the epidemic
before people started dropping like flies in the north east.

He still thought more of the politically correct thing to say than
anything scientific but that is not surprising, he is a political
patronage worker. He serves at the pleasure of the HHS secretary. He
is not a civil service employee.

And you don't respect civil service workers, either, right?

Oh, let's not forget that info on COVID and the vaccines is a moving
target. An actual scientist takes into account information at hand and
then adjusts it if the info at hand changes. Obviously, our knowledge of
COVID and Fauci's knowledge of it has evolved with time.

Fauci is just guessing. He's as reliable as CNN. My guess is
containing this flu will be as likrely as containing the
thousands of other flu varients floating around. Effective
treatment seems to me to be the best hope of survival.
The good news from Biden is he thinks we might be able to stop
wearing masks in a year or two.

Rumor is that Dr. Oz will guest host on Jeopardy.

I understand they are pretty much fireproof and Fauci isn't hence he
needs to toe the party line or find someone else who will pay him more
than $400k to be a spokesperson.
