Speaker Nancy Pelosi of California said on Friday that the House would
move to impeach President Trump over his role in inciting a violent mob
attack on the Capitol if he did not resign “immediately,” appealing to
Republicans to join the push to force him from office.

In a letter to members of the House, the speaker invoked the resignation
of Richard M. Nixon amid the Watergate scandal, when Republicans
prevailed upon the president to resign and avoid the ignominy of an
impeachment, calling Mr. Trump’s actions a “horrific assault on our
democracy.”

“Today, following the president’s dangerous and seditious acts,
Republicans in Congress need to follow that example and call on Trump to
depart his office — immediately,” she wrote. “If the president does not
leave office imminently and willingly, the Congress will proceed with
our action.”

I still think he should have resigned at Christmas. Then none of this
**** would have happened.
.... And I would have made a buck from Harry

The way it is now, even if he did resign, his Pence pardon is probably
a lost cause.
I think he has even lost Pence.

Apparently if Trump is impeached by the current house he can be convicted
by the next senate even if he is out of office and thereby prevented from
ever holding federal office again. And it only takes a two/thirds vote by
the senators in the chamber that day.

I doubt Trump has much of a political career left unless he is willing
to move to Wyoming and run for the Senate but I don't see that
happening. I suspect he will either go back to TV or just slip into
obscurity being a pop up guest on political talk shows.

Apparently the TrumpThugs are talking up plans to stage another coup
attack on the Capitoi for later this month. Hopefully, large numbers of
armed officers will be stationed to properly greet any who try to move
from reasonable outdoor spaces and invade the public's buildings.
Marching around outside these buildings, waving signs, chanting,
shouting, et cetera, are perfectly acceptable ways to demonstrate how
you feel on the issues of the day. Storming the Capitol or other federal
or local governmental buildings is not.

Some decades ago, a group of men "invaded" a floor of an office building
on upper Wisconsin Avenue in D.C. I happened to be there that day,
visiting with a labor union client and another labor union who were
meeting there to discuss terms for an upcoming union representation
election. The union members broke up the invasion. The invaders
apparently were not away the building was the local headquarters of the
police union in D.C., and there were dozens and dozen of armed cops in
the building who also had access to the weapons in their patrol cars
parked in the lot. Doh.

I understand there are some other penalties for being impeached and
convicted, including loss of pension, loss of Secret Service protection,
and a couple of others. Loss of pension wouldn't matter to Trump, but if
he lost his bodyguards, he'd have to pay out of his pocket to replace
them. There are entities who will be gunning for Trump no matter what,
and among them are Iranians.

I've stated before I wouldn't want to see Trump or any other politician
or public official assassinated. The Iranians are pretty determined.
