more Representatives. States pick the President, not the people. He
founding fathers were very astute.


It had to do with pacifying the slave states.

It had far more to do with talking the western states into joining the
union. They feared exactly what you want. They had no interest in
being ruled by a couple of Northeastern states.
If you did away with the EC, a third of the states would be cut out of
the presidential process completely. Why waste your money or make
promises in states with less than a million or two votes in a 380
million vote election?
