Yup. Picked up the casings from the guy at the next shooting station,
who said they weren't worth reloading again. Took a bunch to a friend's
house and tried out his press. Snazzy, eh? :) Good enough for snap
caps with rubber primers.

How did they get to be snap caps? Did you pull the bullets, dump the
powder, deprime them and replace the primer with some kind of HDPE or
something?
You probably should have drilled a hole or 2 in the case so you knew
they were dummies.

Yeah my compass deviates when he walks around with them all the way
down here ;)

So much for all of those rants about steel ammo.

I presume the guy I got the casings from at the range had reloaded them
with encased lead bullets, unless it is common practice to reload brass
casings with ferrous bullets. The bullets I snagged at my buddy's
reloading bench were non-ferrous. But, of course, you jumped to another
set of erroneous conclusions. I did note that some relatively cheap
"steel" ammo shot well out of a particular rifle.

They got to be snap caps because I put them together as snap caps from
empty casings I snagged at the range and bullets I snagged from a
buddy's reloading bench. Put them together without powder, and the
primers are little round circles of hard rubber I superglued in.

At the moment, I have nothing that shoots that round, and the snap caps
are living in a baggie in a drawer. I just put them together so I could
sort of see how it was done.

I am interested in getting a 7.62x39 firearm, but not a semi-auto rifle.

The bigger question is how did all this happen with the stay home and social distancing that's in place? And harry doesn't know which end of a press is the correct one, so his buddy didn't give him the run of his reloading shop.

Someone handed him the shells with the bullets pressed in and crimped and some rubber primer plugs, and told him to superglue them into the primer pockets. At best. He doesn't have a clue how to setup a die in a press.

Too funny.
