An article from NBC News says:

"Experts, however, have said there's no evidence that people with
mental illness are at a higher risk for committing gun violence.

"It is important to note that the overwhelming majority of people
with mental illness are not violent and far more likely to be
victims of violent crime than perpetrators of violence," the
American Psychiatric Association said in a statement this week.
"Rhetoric that argues otherwise will further stigmatize and
interfere with people accessing needed treatment. Individuals can
also be emboldened to act violently by the public discourse and divisive rhetoric.""

Sane, rational people don't pick up a weapon and kill multiple,
random people. They are mentally ill. The APA is clueless. It
sounds like they just want to protect their income stream.

I have been saying this is the position of mental health professionals
for years. They think that as soon as you identify people as having a
mental issue they will become stigmatized so people will be reluctant
to seek help.
It is similar to how they talked about AIDS.
That explains why doctors want to use blanket gun regulation instead
of just trying to identify the dangerous people.

Stigma is a huge issue preventing the mentally ill from seeking help.
There are other issues, of course, such as availability of treatment,
availability of transportation, funding, et cetera, but stigma is a biggie.

BS. The psychiatrists can't divulge who comes to see them. That, and
the contents of their "sessions", are strictly protected. Publicly
acknowledging that mental illness DOES contribute to violent behavior
may even bring in people grappling with their own illness, in that they
don't want to misbehave, and knowing that may lead them to help.

The problem is, if they have to put the "dangerous" ones into the
instant check system they will be breaking that confidentiality and it
will make people avoid seeing a therapist. That "no buy" list is far
from confidential. If it ever goes any farther than public criminal
records, people will be selling that data.

You boyz be sure to get back to us when you actually know something
factual about the barriers to mental health treatment stigma creates.
From what I have seen you post here, you know less than zip. You might
have an anecdote or two from people you might know or have known, but
that doesn't mean you have any significant data on the subject.

Oh, in many and in a growing number of states, mental health
practitioners have a duty to warn about "dangerous" patients and are
held harmless if they do so. So you boys have that one wrong, too.

But, hey, you are free to continue to spew your factfree, pre-conceived
notions and ignorance

How many of those dangerous patients have mental health professionals
actually cured?

A cured patient is a customer lost.

I am sure there are enough patients. The cure rate is so low, probably
lost in the static. Drugged, not cured.
