Those Jake brakes are really obnoxious, ought to be totally outlawed

They are loud but you have to remember that a diesel, unlike a gasoline
engine, does not provide any engine braking when you take your foot
off the gas/fuel pedal. Going down a hill a diesel powered truck will
just keep accelerating and truckers would be replacing expensive brakes
often.



In 'tow/haul' mode, mine will downshift to slow down if I have the cruise control at a slower speed.
Also, going downhill and hitting the brakes will cause it to downshift.


I understand but still, a diesel offers no engine braking like a gas engine.


Not without dumping the compression after the piston goes up anyway.

Maybe that's what my truck does in 'tow/haul' mode.



Ah, that's what turned the turbo "exhaust brake" on in the Ford I had.
It works when you use the tow/haul mode.

I'll dig out the manual and see what it says. The GM probably works the same way.

Nice deflection but I still have not heard you say anything about how
you like traditional American music, bluegrass, country/western or
even Motown.
I have also not heard you say much about visiting anywhere out of the
urban areas or you would understand those people are not the bigots
you depict them to be. The fact is when you run into black people in
the Dakotas, rural Colorado or Idaho, they are not your typical urban
thugs or welfare cheats and their neighbors usually like them. The
same is true of Latinos.

That's true even of the suburbs of DC.
