Mr. Luddite[_4_] April 23rd 18 12:18 PM

A knock on the door ....

Saw some news this morning about the growing membership in the
"Democratic Socialists of America".

Seems the majority of young people today favor their form of socialism
over capitalism, influenced mostly by liberal professors and instructors
in our universities and colleges.

This news story was timely and ironic because:

Yesterday (Sunday) a guy wearing a suit knocked on my door. My first
thought was he may be proselytizing for some religious order, something
I have not experienced since 1970 while living in Zion, Il.

Prepared to politely but firmly tell him I was not interested, he handed
me a flyer and announced he represented the Democratic Socialists of
America and was handing out information on the organization and what
they believe in.

Less friendly, I told him I wasn't interested, goodbye ... but he
insisted on having me hear him out.

Told him again I was not interested.

He then said, "You must be a Trump supporter".

Blew my cork. Told him to shove his socialism up his ass and get the
**** off my property.

Then, later in the day I saw a town cop had pulled him over not far
from where we live. Later, I heard that the police had stopped him
after receiving several complaints by others about him harassing people
in the neighborhood.

Harry has it made. He calls us trump supporters with no fear of arrest. But he can still openly testify of his democratic socialism.

He called you out for what you are...a Trump supporter. What's the big
deal?
BTW, what do "Democratic Socialists" believe in? :)

Google is your friend. My lawyer friend is a Democratic Socialist but
he's not as far left as the current crop that are emerging from schools
today. He's about your age.

He and I have often had very civil and respectful discussions about
politics and he knows well that I am not a "Trumpster". I just happen
to believe in capitalism as a primary economic system in the USA and
I support many of the efforts that Trump and Republicans in general
are attempting to correct due to the overly left influences of the last
administration.

I don't approve (not that it matters what I think) or agree with his
big, egotistical mouth and I think it hurts him in achieving his goals
but that's a personality thing, not a political ideological issue.

No, ****-for-brains, I don't consider people, even religious charlatans,
who knock on the door or ring the doorbell as "trespassers." Our street,
even out to the state road, doesn't have many houses, and we don't often
get canvassers of any stripe.

It's mostly the rural mail delivery folks who ring the doorbell. If they
have a parcel too big for the community mail box kiosk down the street,
they leave it on the front porch and ring the doorbell.

I suspect you don't get much of that, eh, what with the "Quarantined"
sign poked into your front lawn. No one wants your airborne herpes.

If you paid attention instead of spewing out knee-jerk reactions you
might realize that I don't defend "Trump" ... I simply agree with many
of his policies and initiatives. It's a political and economic
agreement, not an endorsement of his personality. You probably feel
similarly about some outspoken people in your party ... like Maxine
Waters. I'll bet that fundamentally you agree with much of her
politics but wish she'd keep her big mouth shut.

Regarding Hillary CLinton ... I've long been on record as to my distrust
of her. I think she is possibly the most dishonest person to ever have
been involved in politics.

Maybe it's due to being a Libra (scales of justice) that is responsible
for my feeling that she is guilty of election improprieties that make
the accusations of Trump look insignificant. If he is going to be
"investigated" for over a year and a half, she deserves the same
treatment, especially as she continues to cast blame on everyone else
for her defeat. She just doesn't get it. Enough people obviously
thought like me resulting in her embarrassing loss.

To their credit though, more and more members of your party are now
saying, "Hillary Who?"

The younger people who identify as a "Democratic Socialist" are more
radical relative to conservative views than older people, like Bernie
Sanders. I attribute this to our liberal universities and colleges and
the fact that younger folks just don't have historical knowledge of
what has made the USA what it is.

Bernie is actually starting to sound more conservative by comparison.

I don't take the modern Nazi political party seriously about anything.
Bunch of really messed up minds.

My objection to my "visitor" wasn't really about socialism. I don't
subscribe to it's ideology as it applies to the USA but I respect that
it works elsewhere.

My comment to him was specifically about *him* and his intrusion of
my privacy in my home to promote his political beliefs. I'd likely do
the same thing to a representative of the Democratic or Republican party.

I am not a big fan of corporate welfare. I will say everyone in these
targeted businesses get them tho and they always pass congress with
wide bipartisan support. I do think Trump should be comping the
government the use of his resorts when he is visiting. He certainly
should not be recovering more than the actual cost.
I said from day one that hotel in DC was troubling. The beef I have
always agreed with was the conflicts of interest.
It is the problem you have when you put a person with businesses into
the White House but it is not a new problem. George Washington had
serious conflicts of interest. It is quite possible that Washington
walked away from the presidency because his business had advanced to
the point that these conflicts may have become troubling to his
critics.

Voting themselves generous gifts from the public treasury.

That more aptly describes Trump, his family, and his appointees.

How is that?

Oh, special deals on condos, isolation phone booths, promotion and hotel
rentals at Trump hotel in DC, promotion of Mar-a-Lago, overseas
deals...don't you read the news?

I am not a big fan of corporate welfare. I will say everyone in these
targeted businesses get them tho and they always pass congress with
wide bipartisan support. I do think Trump should be comping the
government the use of his resorts when he is visiting. He certainly
should not be recovering more than the actual cost.
I said from day one that hotel in DC was troubling. The beef I have
always agreed with was the conflicts of interest.
It is the problem you have when you put a person with businesses into
the White House but it is not a new problem. George Washington had
serious conflicts of interest. It is quite possible that Washington
walked away from the presidency because his business had advanced to
the point that these conflicts may have become troubling to his
critics.

I have a big problem with lots of corporate welfare. Elon and Tesla
getting 5 or so years of no property tax to put a battery plant in Nevada.
How about small business that are already there? They and the rest of
the people do not get a tax holiday. I have a friend I grew up with that
has a manufacturing business in a small town south of Reno. Where was his
tax exemption? He employs a bunch of people. How about Resnick,
billionaire supporter of the Liberal wing of the Democrats. Gets
subsidized water for his farms in the westlands Water District. Seems he
has secondary water rights, but has finagled it in to primary rights.
Pays about $9 an acre foot, which costs $60-70 an acre foot to deliver.
Then they resell some of that water for $300+ an acre foot to he cities.

There, again, Populism misses the boat.

Bismarck (Conservative) created the modern welfare state (Liberal?) in
Germany. After the German Revolution, post WW1, the German
Conservatives wished to create a "New World Order" (isn't that
Liberal?) and happily joined forces with the Nazis (closet
Conservatives that hated Capitalism), which then outlawed all of the
other parties.. including the Conservatives (who apparently hated
liberals more than Socialism).

Amazing how history is rewritten....

I was referring to your comments regarding German Conservatives and
Nazis following WWI.

Really? In East Germany, after WWII, the Communist Party of Germany
(KPD) and the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) merged to
become the Socialist Unity Party of Germany (SED).

Then...... they all actually did hate Nazis.... seems like everybody
needs somebody to hate. Huh?
