- show quoted text - Maybe that worked for you. I wasn't drafted and I wasn't stupid enough to give up college and the beginnings of a career to enlist and fight in a war against people who represented no threat to the United States and its democratic allies. ..... Neither was vp Cheaney. You guys must think alike... |

No, Timmy, I was in college and I saw no need to enlist to help slaughter a million SE Asians in an absolutely absurd war. Afraid they might shoot back huh? Besides, when you were 18, there was no war, at least not one we would admit to. The question should have been...why would I want to shoot at SW Asians for any reason, since they represented no threat to the United States or its allies, well, except maybe to the totally corrupt South Vietnamese government, eh? Because a Democrat President said you should. Maybe that worked for you. So you chose coward for a lifelong label. Good choice........for you. -- x ----Android NewsGroup Reader---- http://usenet.sinaapp.com/ |

I was a part time college student, also learning computers while being paid by NCR. As to a career, I made more per year than my college professor stepfather before I got my university degree. |

Once I was with IBM I could get 100% reimbursement for my college if I wanted it but I also worked at 2 colleges and I could sit in on any class I wanted. I did look at a few and I was not impressed. The computer science kids were following me around asking me questions their professor couldn't answer. |

I had enough other opportunities available within the basic structure that I was OK. In the end I passed on some of the most lucrative ones (short term) I was an instructor for a while, I worked in plant tech support, I had no real interest in management (probably a good thing since they took most of the early layoffs) and I did not want to be a systems analysts (again the first to go). None of them would have been easier to get with a degree anyway. When the opportunity to run a 6 man resident territory opened up in Florida I jumped on it and ended up at the top of the box anyway. Being a non-exempt level 23** I made more money than my boss ;-) |

What war? Didn't you tell us you graduated HS in the very early 60s? One of the reasons I joined the CG was there was no war going on and I was not interested in being in the Sgt Bilko/Elvis army. That was 64, years after you say you got out of HS. |
