No, Timmy, I was in college and I saw no need to enlist to help slaughter a million SE Asians in an absolutely absurd war. Afraid they might shoot back huh? Besides, when you were 18, there was no war, at least not one we would admit to. The question should have been...why would I want to shoot at SW Asians for any reason, since they represented no threat to the United States or its allies, well, except maybe to the totally corrupt South Vietnamese government, eh? Because a Democrat President said you should. Maybe that worked for you. I wasn't drafted and I wasn't stupid enough to give up college and the beginnings of a career to enlist and fight in a war against people who represented no threat to the United States and its democratic allies. What war? Didn't you tell us you graduated HS in the very early 60s? One of the reasons I joined the CG was there was no war going on and I was not interested in being in the Sgt Bilko/Elvis army. That was 64, years after you say you got out of HS. |

Yet another example of your detachment from reality. My only connection with the draft was to keep my local draft board informed of my whereabouts during the years I might have been drafted. "They" never told me to report for a pre-induction physical or sent me draft notice, so, therefore, they never looked at me. Perhaps if you had been exposed to the rigor of academia, your thought processes would be...sharper. Rigor? Is that what makes you so headstong? I did not see it as rigor. I saw it as boring, spending way more time catering to the dummies than it took to learn rudimentary concepts. I preferred the tempo of schools that were not interested is seeing how long they could string out your education. They wanted to see how fast you could learn and get out in the field using the information. |

The computer science kids were following me around asking me questions their professor couldn't answer. |

(unless we are moving your age around again) My age isn’t moving, other than year by year. My undergrad deferment ended in the mid 1960s. Once again, you are spewing hot air but no substance. You were 18 during the JFK administration, What war? I got my draft notice Christmas of 1964. Turned 22 in Air Force basic. Decided army was not good early 1965. |

I had enough other opportunities available within the basic structure that I was OK. In the end I passed on some of the most lucrative ones (short term) I was an instructor for a while, I worked in plant tech support, I had no real interest in management (probably a good thing since they took most of the early layoffs) and I did not want to be a systems analysts (again the first to go). None of them would have been easier to get with a degree anyway. When the opportunity to run a 6 man resident territory opened up in Florida I jumped on it and ended up at the top of the box anyway. Being a non-exempt level 23** I made more money than my boss ;-) |

Applied to birth years 1944 on. I was born 1943,but had already been sent a draft notice in 1964. His deferments hid him for at least 6years with a masters degree. So maybe they were not drafting 24 year olds then, and he did not have a critical skill degree. |
