Mr. Luddite[_4_] February 20th 18 12:41 PM

Interesting statistic

Just heard that 75 percent of young people today are not eligible for
military service for various reasons including physical condition, lack
of education, drugs, felony convictions, etc.

Serious reflection of the times we live in.

About 30% can't pass the AFQT. Wow. That is some dumbing down of our education right there.

And those who do serve score higher than the national average for
educational standards.

I wonder how many high schoolers who aren't from well-off families opt
for a continuation of their education in 2-year community colleges,
rather than opt for the military. Two-year colleges seem to be growing
in popularity and enrollment.

I bet that is particularly true at the college level.

Teacher's unions do everything they can to avoid testing for actual
achievement.

They are cheap and most of the credits are transferable. In a lot of
cases all the 2 year college is doing is teaching kids what they
should have learned in K-12 tho. That is certainly true for the first
year anyway.
There are also plenty of 2 year schools that send you on your way with
the certificate you need for a job without the burden of a 5 figure
student loan debt.

Amen!

They also do everything they can to avoid any kind of efficiency appraisal.

We have state wide achievement testing for school ratings. Lots of the
schools tell the parents to opt out of the testing. Any school
functionary who councils that advice should be fired. Not allowed to
retire, but fired. Also should be no opting out.

IF they tell the right parents, then the bottom folks will stay home and skew the hell out of the
results. Makes the school look good. And hell, out there the powers that be probably encourage it.

I imagine the kids who think they will not do well will stay home. The
opposite is true of my middle grand daughter. She goes out of her way
to take every test she can because she thinks they are easy and she
likes to win.
