The little gas station Mrs.E. and I go to has the lowest gas prices in the area. When other stations are at $2.25 a gallon, this one is at $2.15. Run by super nice and friendly people too. Shortly before Harvey, the price for a gallon had risen to $2.23. I noticed this morning when driving by the station that the price has now risen to $2.53 a gallon. |

I suppose they could put them on the west coast where the earth quakes are or on the east coast where the snow flakes will bitch about them. The fact is environmental concerns have prevented virtually any new refinery construction in the US for the last 30 years and a number have been closed. People bitch about the evils of oil and the production, fighting any new development and then they bitch when the price goes up. |

The excuse is..if we don't pay through the nose, they can export our share for Yankee dohhahs. It looks like most of the gouging is done be the federal, provincial and local government. For you it looks like 10c to the feds, 15c to the province and another 15% sales tax per liter on top of all of that. Yup. It seems to be in their interests to see the price per liter go up in relation to the 15% HST. So it seems you're whining at the wrong people, yes? |

They are far from "all" down there but we certainly have plenty. https://earthjustice.org/features/147refineries It is mostly because that is where a lot of the crude comes from and also the easy access to tanker ports. In addition to that there is also a lot of plastic manufacturing going on in the area using the tailings from the gasoline and diesel production. Harry would point out it is a low wage area but I am not sure that is really true in the oil business. |
