The big Harleys are meant for cruising, not nimble performance or cornering.

Definitely. An FL sure isn't a Sportster...

Brother and I went for a bike ride to West Virginia on Saturday. Rented a brand new Harley for
him,$125 for 24 hours, which I thought was very reasonable. Had a great time on some WV roads that
seem to have been designed by a motorcyclist. Put 380 miles on the bikes with no problems. He was a
motorcycle cop for a bunch of years, so I figured he'd be on my butt in the twisties. But, a Harley
just won't do it. This was a 2017 Harley, all decked out. Beautiful bike, if you like 'em. But it
couldn't keep up with a 28 year-old Guzzi.

Maybe we should have borrowed your Ducati, eh Harry?

What Harley? Dresser? I bet he could have kept up with you on a
Sportster. My 72 could run with the Ring Dings.

Yeah, a dresser. I asked him if he thought a Sportster would handle twisties as well as my Guzzi.
His answer, "No way." The Sportster would be more maneuverable than the full dresser, but still not
like a Guzzi. He's owned Guzzi's also.

Sportsers are not that heavy and pretty nimble. The one I had was also
stroked so it had a lot of low end torque to get going again if you
slowed down. It was pretty "sporty". I still preferred the 72
Superglide tho.
..,.

The "superglude" helped put HD back on the map. I almost bought a Captain America once. By the time I got the funds together, it was gone. Never really liked the Night Train though.

I think my 72 may have been a Captain America (the one with the funny
seat) when it was new but it was dressed like a sportster when I got
it.

Yeah, that is the one. I wasn't sure what year it was. Never saw one
in real life. The guys I rode with would kick your ass if you showed
up with something like that. The pipes and the seat on mine was not
stock. I know the pipes are from a Sportster. The original Superglide
pipes were that collector cludge that ended up in one muffler going
out the back,
