Sorry. Different but doesn't compare to the original, IMO.

Interestingly, S&G originally released it as "The Sounds of Silence"
in 1964 and was used in the movie "The Graduate" but the album it was
on flopped. It was re-released in 1966 as "Sound of Silence" and
became the big hit. According to Simon, the song was about the growing
inability of people to talk and communicate. I think it's popularity
after the second release also demonstrated a major shift in the public's
mood as the Vietnam War ramped up. Big difference even in two short years.

I saw The Graduate for the first time in the spring of 1967, and that
was probably the first time I'd ever heard any of their music. I was
mostly hibernating that year however and wasn't getting out much.
Great movie and great music, it really made an impression on me.

Thought it was a great movie then. But about 2003 saw Ann Bancroft in the
Graduate play in London. Maybe age related, but kept thinking nobody could
be that stupid about life after 4 years of college.
