Finally got the Ruger Mini-14 Ranch Rifle that I've been lusting for. Love it. Also love the Burris

(Just kidding! I'm not nearly the shot our southern Maryland boy is!)

Here's a couple photos. Hope they're viewable:

Looks nice John. It's so unusual to see a rifle with a wooden stock
these days. Does it have an internal box magazine?

Man, that "scope" is mounted high. No, it uses magazines.

Here, Harry. Even chubby cheeks can get a decent weld. I suppose you'd cut the handle off to mount the sight lower, eh?

In case you think that is the 'exceptional' way of mounting the sight--

On the more modern versions of that "AR" rifle, there is no carry
handle. What there is is a rail mounted on the upper receiver right
above the action and the barrel. If there is a carry handle, it is
removable so a sight can be mounted on a rail. None of the photos in
what you posted show a Mini-14, anyway. I tried out the sight you bought
at a Bass Pro Shop. It is a decent sight for the price. Interestingly,
the firearms sales counters at that store are almost 100 yards away from
the other side of the store, so you can easily see how the sight would
perform at that fairly typical distance. I ended up buying a Vortex
sight instead. You pays your money and you makes your choice.

Your comment had to do with the height of the sight, if you'll recall.

Tactical optics tend to be mounted higher than the scope on a varmint
rifle. Different type of optic, different sport, different kind of
shooter and done at a much faster pace.
You are right that AR optics have to be mounted higher because there
is virtually no drop at the comb. That was one thing that prompted the
"handle" (for iron sights)

Yet there are optics designed for authentic AR15's!

It comes with two 5 round magazines. I ordered two 20 round magazines. I like the wooden stock much
better than the plastic, although this same rifle comes with those also.
