Unreal.
100's of thousands of marchers are filling the streets in just about every city and town in MA today, carrying signs, chanting, wearing funny hats and making a lot of noise. Anti-Trump rallies, you ask? Of course not. They are expressing support for the Patriots in tomorrow's Superbowl game. 7th Superbowl appearance for Tom Brady. Only disappointment is no Gronk on the field this year. Just in ads. |

I am rooting for the Pats of course but Atlanta is hungry for a win. They have only played in one Superbowl back in 1999 (and lost). This will be the Pat's 9th time, Brady's 7th time looking for his fifth Superbowl ring. |

I'd expect him to respond by saying he could care less. |

I may check on the Stupor Bowl to see if the game is entertaining and competitive or just another snorefest.
In this area I, like most Maritimes, would support our cousins in the Boston States. I'll have to make sure I see the Lady Gaga Show. She was delicious in that Haunted Hotel tv series a couple of years ago. |

Up to about Superbowl XXII or so the halftime entertainment consisted mostly of marching bands with an occasional singer or recording artist. For the most part the halftime shows have been all downhill since with a few exceptions, IMO. |

The football game itself has been mediocre so many times they had to do something to justify the 10 megabuck a minute the best ad spots go for. |

Gaga got a whole lot better when Tony Bennett took her under his wing and showed her she could be successful without the halloween costumes. Unfortunately she still has a fan base that expects it. She is actually a pretty good singer. |

Go Patriots. Go Tom Brady. A 5th superbowl ring would put you in a class by yourself as a QB. I look forward to Goodell when he has to pass the superbowl trophy to Kraft and Brady. Will be an interesting moment IMO.

I only remember a couple of the players' names from those days, but they were biggies...Bart Starr and Ray Nitschke for Green Bay and Len Dawson for the Chiefs. |

My other ancient football memory was from your neck of the woods ... Les Shaw's restaurant. The Detroit Lions and the New York Giants were in town to play an annual pre-season exhibition game. I worked at Les Shaw's at the time as a busboy and the owner invited me to have breakfast on game day with the Lions who had reserved the place for the pre-game meal. Her father grabbed my arm, introduced himself and told me it was *her* idea to have dinner there because she knew I worked there. Talk about Red faced. You were embarrassed because you were a teenager with a job? A 16 year old wearing a chef's hat, coat and towel around my neck and carrying a basket of Pop-Overs wasn't my idea of how you went about impressing pretty young girls. It was ok though, I guess. Feedback was that she thought I looked "cute". |

She was delicious in that Haunted Hotel tv series a couple of years ago. We'll be doing our usual here for Super Bowl night...dinner and a movie. I wouldn't mind seeing the Lady GaGa show, though...maybe it'll show up on youtube I went to the first NFL-AFL championship game, which I vaguely remember as being in 1966 or 1967 on assignment for the newspaper. I didn't know **** about football, really, and I still don't, but I went along with the sports writing team to LA to do quickie interviews of KC area fans who went out to see their team play Green Bay. I was "good" at approaching folks and getting quotes from them. I didn't see that much of the game, but I know the Chiefs were slaughtered. That was the first and last pro football game I watched. I only remember a couple of the players' names from those days, but they were biggies...Bart Starr and Ray Nitschke for Green Bay and Len Dawson for the Chiefs. Years ago while on a business trip (I think late-80's) I was standing in line at the ticket counter at Baltimore International airport. Guy in line in front of me turned around to look at something and I realized it was Johnny Unitas. He was already somewhat hobbled over and moved with some difficulty. I remember looking up stats on him after that indicated he was 6'1" in his playing years. Definitely must have shrunk in retirement because I was almost a head taller than him. Sat between Joe Don Looney and some other huge player who's name I can't remember. I was jaded in my youth because Dick James all around "back" for the redskins lived a few doors down from me (back when football was just a job and not a particularly well paying one) We used to see the other players at his house all the time. That was when football barely made it to TV. The only thing that made then unique is they did not have a regular job or work for the government. Tom Nomina, (Dolphins and Broncos) lives in my neighborhood now but he got busted up pretty bad in the few years he played. I always feel sorry for the guys who never got to be millionaires and now they only have the scars to remind them of being in the show. |

Her father grabbed my arm, introduced himself and told me it was *her* idea to have dinner there because she knew I worked there. Talk about Red faced. I bet she got an extra pop over or two ;-) |

They generally see that as a badge of rank and get particular about who gets to wear one. |

Stupid tall, white hat that kept flopping over to one side. It *looked* like a lop-sided pop-over. http://ericasrecipes.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/popovers-ericasrecipes-2-wm.jpg The chef at Judy's place does not want any confusion about who the chef is. He wears the white chef suit and all of the assistant chefs wear black. Lesser workers have other uniforms. He is the only one with a big hat. This is sort of a cross between the military and Caddyshack. ... "Dog Food!" I doubt very much that anyone confused me as being a "real" chef. |

I'll be on a popover quest and don't think there's anywhere in Florida where I can get one. First I ever had was at the Harborside Inn at Edgartown, Mass in the summer of 1971 before they converted it to a resort. My last popover "fix" was at the Jordan Pond House in Acadia Park, Maine back before the fire. Their's are the best anywhere in my opinion. http://www.ohranger.com/acadia/news/2009/park-palates-jordan-pond-house-popovers |

In the 60's we used to drink with a lot of the Raiders at Cactus Jacks in Oakland. Down the street from one of our computer centers. Was the days when they made good money, but not fantastic coin. In 1979, used to see Jim Otto in one of the places I got morning coffee on way to work. Was really sad, nice guy, successful businessman, and crippled all up. I think hip replacement, both knees, etc. |
