That's a very naive way of looking at an engineering education. In
many ways it's a study of applied mathematics as related to the
sciences. Mathematics is the language of science, and engineering is
the application of science to design and problem solving. Engineers
learn the nitty gritty of the trades on their summer jobs and as OJT
after they graduate.
