And yes...Toyota does put soft, quick wearing tires on their vehicles.
Michelins run smoother and a lot longer.

Yeah but I'm a man of action...especially in the summer when I'm towing my boat around.
There are numerous beautiful spots to launch and boat.


23000 miles on a set of tires? How crappy are your roads. I think we got
75000 on the wife's Venza and I get about 60k miles on a 3/4 ton 4x4 truck.

The wing had 23331 when I got it in April. When I parked it the first week of December it had 26280. The guzzi had 17956 when I got it Late Oct. 2015. It was also parked this passed November with 20831.

It was a fun season!

Wasn't trying to be disrespectful to Don. I have no reason to dislike him.


I didn't think there was any disrespect implied. When you get down in
the single digits F and C can blur a bit in the places where water
thaws and freezes. Of course if it gets cold enough, there is no
difference at all (-40)

We found Nova Scotia to be fairly temperate when we cruised through
there last August. The northern Gulf of St Lawrence however, not so
much. At that point we were farther north than southern Newfoundland,
and only a day or two from Labrador.


Our kids are getting a real "Northern Michigan" winter this year. Last
year the natives said it was quite mild. They were also living in
downtown Traverse City so getting to the store was not an issue. Now
they are 10 miles outside of Elk Rapids and that is just a wide spot
in the road. They do have a Meijers tho (Super Walmart/Target sort of
thing)

I put Michelins on the Sport Trak and it rides a lot better too.

i just got back from a grocery store run. At the moment we have 6" of
powdery snow on the ground, and the temp is 20F. Our driveway, our
street and the two state roads that lead to the main highway around
here have not been plowed. The main highway has, and it is slushy.
Used the 4WD (High mode) in my truck for the first time and that,
combined with its high clearance, aggressive all season tires, and
manual transmission, made the trip easy.


Why did the manual transmission help in 6" of powder?

I pretty much gave up on stick shifts for daily drivers in 1968. I
remember miles long traffic jams from Laguna Seca raceway via Gilroy of
stop and go traffic. My leg would start shaking from the clutch work. And
pulling a race car trailer. Later, drop it in drive, and enjoy power
brakes.

I still like actually driving my sporty cars. A slush box is fine in
vans and trucks. I have worked very hard to avoid stop and go traffic.
I worked midnights for the past 11 years I was in DC. It was great
driving home in empty lanes on the beltway and watching the cars piled
up going the other way. SW Florida was very rural when I moved here
and a few tricks to avoid the trouble spots kept me moving right along
most of the time. They did not have much in the way of computer
customers in the tourist areas
