great tasting fish. Just have a line in the water without a license will
get you a ticket.

die and the deterioration starts immediately. Most state and federal
laws require that you are not filleting them on the water tho because
it is harder to enforce size limits. Throwing the whole fish into the
cooler or dropping them in a live well is the way to go if you think
the cops will see you.

One cannot touch a rockfish up here. The cops do check the coolers though, and if the fish looks
close, they'll measure it.

On a stringer the fish isn't being pulled through the water, which it would be if trolled behind the
boat keeping water flowing past the gills.

I've never done it, but it would seem those folks must have a reason for doing so.

I used to see fish on a stringer when I was a kid but that was also
when deer were tied across car fenders.
I think it is really more of a lake thing than a salt water thing tho.
In salt water, there are too many things that will eat a fish on a
stringer, no matter how big it is. I was out on the Sanibel fishing
pier when I lived there and I saw a 3' red fish on a stringer get
taken by a black tip shark that was not a whole lot bigger than the
red. Two bites and it was gone.

Do not want to give up space for a fish cooler. Could plastic bag them and
throw in the beer cooler. My late fishing partner hated for bait to be in
the food cooler.
