We can run inside from here all the way to Cape May, NJ so I don't think this next storm system will slow us down too much. Running in rain and wind is not a lot of fun however. My GFS model shows it moving off shore before it hits this area with too much impact. That turned out to be Wednesday but I guess the weather slowed you down. I see you are coming up the inside approaching the Virginia state line now, just East of Liz City. Looking at the radar, it looks like the sun came out for you. You are not missing much here. The tropical moisture Colin dragged up is still hanging around and it has been cloudy and ****ing on us for days. I really prefer when we actually get the storm and it sucks out all of the moisture for a few days, leaving nice weather. I suppose it is good that it is cloudy for me tho. I had laser surgery in my left eye yesterday and light still bothers me |

The west coast of the bay goes up pretty fast from the water. It is like that up in the pan handle (AKA Baja Alabama) but down here I am about 120 miles from 120 feet up or down (in the gulf) We are flat. |

I see you are up in a cove just south of the Rappahannock. We used to fish a ledge just a little East North East of there in the middle of the bay that was always very productive. You are definitely in an area I know a bit about now but it is all at least 35 years ago except a few trips to Ridge. (St Jerome's Creek) Is there still a Coast Guard base in Berkley? (near the I-264 bridge) I would not be shocked if it was closed because they just ran ocean station ships out of there and they don't do ocean stations anymore. I didn't see anything like it on the Google pictures. Maybe you can stop by and take a picture of Harry's boat so the boys will get off his back about it ;-) |

Today was clear and sunny also but cold and windy in the morning by our Floridian standards. Today's big challenge was getting through the Norfolk Southern Railroad Bridge #7. The bridge was hit a while back by an errant tug boat and barge, and has been under repair ever since with restricted operating hours. It has been driving boaters nuts because the posted hours have often been incorrect and there is no way around it other than going outside Cape Hatteras. We got up at 5:00AM this morning to try and catch it before 7 when work starts. It was closed when we got there at 6 but it turned out to be only temporary. We eventually got through about 6:30 which was a big relief. The bridge is an incredible anachronism which looks like it is at least 100 years old and operates with the same efficiency. http://www.waterwayguide.com/nav-alert/4-5755/norfolk-va-icw-closures-at-norfolk-southern-bridge-update High winds on Chesapeake Bay are scheduled for Sunday but we should make it north at least as far as Solomons or St Michaels tomorrow. Are you planning to spend any time at Solomons? Gosh, I hope the wind isn't blowing from the south or east...that bankster stench will wilt our roses. Was that you narcissism talking or just jealousy? ...*you* narcissism... When you count up the number of your guns, do you have to use the fingers on both hands? Wow. Caught a typo. Note that I won't call you any names. |

As far as I'm concerned the best part is up the east coast and into the great lakes. I know several people who have done it because it was sort of a bucket list goal and have then gone on to sell their boats when they returned. I see you are on a roll today, coming up on Cape May. Guess you didn't stop at Mc Garveys for a beer. ;-) |

I hope the weather holds off on you for this sprint into the big apple. |

I've never seen any sign of rowing activity here although we've passed through many times. Cape May is arguably the best inlet on the NJ coast but you have to get back in at some point. |
