"The incident comes after the nation's third largest city recorded 51 homicides in
January, the highest toll for the month since at least 2000. Gang conflicts and
retaliatory violence drove the surge in homicides, police said.

In addition to the jump in killings, the police department said it recorded 241
shooting incidents in January, more than double the 119 incidents recorded last
January."

Gun control doesn't seem to be working too well.

What is different about our big troubled cities than say Toronto, Montreal, or
Calgary, Canada.

You're wrong about that, at least depending on your definition of a
"gun nut". The guys committing the murders are not collectors and
target shooters. They're mostly gang members and/or drug dealers
defending their turf. I don't really know enough about Canadian
cities and their culture to understand why they don't have the same
problem. Perhaps it's related to a different inner city culture but I
don't really know. I'm sure there must be at least a few gangs in
Canada, and I know there are drug issues. Maybe they've found a less
violent way to resolve disputes. Or perhaps the US "war on drugs" has
had some unintended side effects.

I would bet that 95% of the recent Chicago shooters own one or maybe two guns. Folks
like Harry, owning many guns, aren't the ones doing all the shootings. That's why the
idea of destroying all but three guns is simply stupid.

I suppose I fit your 'gun nut' definition, along with Harry and a few others here,
and I do enjoy using them - at the range shooting targets.
