What would anyone want to take Carter's advice on?

Being a decent human being? Of course, there isn't a lot of money in
that, so I suppose for your crowd, it isn't worthwhile.

Jerry Ford was a decent human being too but it didn't stop the left
from ridiculing him.

But...you're in the south. :(

So are you. Defined by the Mason Dixon Line.

Until fairly recently, where Harry lives was "the south" too
but it
became a suburb of DC when PG county turned into a combat zone
and the
people who could afford it, moved east.

You really don't know what you are talking about.

PG County is *not* a combat zone? Where the hell have you been?

There are some parts of PG County that have serious problems, but
most
of the county ain't that way. Hell, you're such a pee down your
pants
leg old whitey racist, you won't even go to DC. You must have been
one
hell of a brave soldier.

If I didn't have a reason to go to DC, I wouldn't either...

It's a beautiful city with many first-rate museums, restaurants, and
parks. I can see why someone from ****ville, Illinois, wouldn't like
it.

Maybe someone from there wouldn't. But I wouldn't know, I'm not from
there.

But Harry, how you can be so far behind and think you're in front is
beyond me.

I've been to DC several times. What I said was:

"If I didn't have a reason to go to DC, I wouldn't either... " Neither
would you, well, maybe for some bazaar reason, you probably would.

Visiting DC is fine. Just don't drink the water.

The bride and I rode through DC on Rte 1 one night around 9 PM. It kind
of creeped us out. Might be because I am not comfortable in big cities.

The last two years I was in the Navy I was stationed in Annapolis. We
went to DC regularly, often to entertain house guests and/or relatives
who had never been there. This was in 1975-1977. Never felt unsafe
although there were sections of the city surrounding the Capital area
that were "rough". Haven't been back since other than some business
trips to the Pentagon and one weekend for Rolling Thunder.

had never been there.

My wife is in DC most days of the work week and attends meetings all
over the city, and I'm in DC at least twice a week, and because of the
nature of the business of one of my clients (low income housing
construction), I often drive or Metro to some "rough" neighborhoods. In
all the years I have been doing this - in fact - in all the years I've
been working, attending functions, going to museums, shows, restaurants
in DC - I've never had the slightest problem. Once I "got a little lost"
driving home from an event in Anacostia at night, and I stopped at a
convenience store for directions. There were a lot of guys "hanging out"
in front of the place, and I simply said "Hi Guys" going in while my
wife sat in the car. No problems.

The only "thug" I've encountered in this area was over in Fairfax
County, Virginia.

It's nice that you and your wife exercise a bit of common sense and stay out of the
'bad' areas at night. If you don't know where they are, just look at a DC homicide
map. It'll give you some clues.

We do stay away from the Springfield Mall/Town Center, down the street
from you not too far.

Totally redone. Damn nice place to go shopping now. Lots of security to keep the
'mini-gangs' from loitering. Absolutely spectacular theater.

But, please do stay away.

My goodness. That wouldn't be Prince George's County, MD, would it?

Cool map. Where'd you get it?

Those are just the fairly minor crimes. (up to aggravated assault and
strong arm robbery) They do not include the A felonies like murder,
rape, carjacking armed robbery and kidnapping.
