My wife and I just got back from a weekend there, and it's our new favorite place in that setting, bumping the Grove Park Inn out of top spot. http://www.oldedwardsinn.com/ You won't regret it. Looks like a beautiful spot, but I don't see any campgrounds nearby. May have to pass this time. -- Ban idiots, not guns! Based on the website I don't think this is the kind of place you go to in order to go camping. Camping? Snerk... This is a suck up to the wife place. |

Based on the website I don't think this is the kind of place you go to in order to go camping. That resort looks like it was right in town, be it a small one. You can go a mile or two in any direction and be out in the woods. The trick is to find forest service land so you are not stumbling onto someone's still and being shot ;-) We usually start right out by looking at the USFS web site when we are deciding what area we want to visit. For us those tend to be more attractive than the "parks". They usually have fire roads you can explore and lots of good places to take a walk. That is true in just about every state we have visited. There also seems to be a lot of primitive camping on those lands. Basically, if you don't bring it, don't expect it to be there. |

No, but I found a nice campground not too far away. http://www.campnc.com/ A short drive to a very nice looking golf course. Of course, they probably don't allow walkers! -- Ban idiots, not guns! |

We spent a few days in Asheville, NC on the return leg of our summer land cruise and were very impressed with that whole western NC area. |

That whole triangle of North Georgia, Tennessee and North Carolina is nice if you like the mountains. That North Carolina was about the middle of the houses we rented. This was Georgia http://gfretwell.com/ftp/georgia/cabin%20rear.jpg Our trip to Tennessee was a while ago when our standards were a little lower. http://gfretwell.com/ftp/Tennessee%20cabin1.jpg |
