You won't regret it.

Looks like a beautiful spot, but I don't see any campgrounds nearby. May have to pass
this time.

I think if you go through Franklin and out to the west you might find
one on Rt 28. I think I remembered seeing camping That is pretty rural
tho (no cell, no WiFi)
We loved it. We "camped" here.

I don't remember seeing any close in to Highlands, but there are certainly campgrounds all over the NC mountains. We drove 28 on the way home, great drive. And yes, tons of cool cabins to rent.

We ate at Paoletti's Italian restaurant in Highlands Saturday night. The Osso Bucco was awesome.

We were all over that area and I do seem to remember people camping on
the forest service land around there. It wasn't "improved sites" but
John can be self sufficient for a while I imagine. We saw people with
slide in campers and tent folks.
We do tend to find out of the way places because we hike.

to in order to go camping.

Camping? Snerk...

This is a suck up to the wife place.

That resort looks like it was right in town, be it a small one. You
can go a mile or two in any direction and be out in the woods. The
trick is to find forest service land so you are not stumbling onto
someone's still and being shot ;-)

We usually start right out by looking at the USFS web site when we are
deciding what area we want to visit. For us those tend to be more
attractive than the "parks". They usually have fire roads you can
explore and lots of good places to take a walk. That is true in just
about every state we have visited.
There also seems to be a lot of primitive camping on those lands.
Basically, if you don't bring it, don't expect it to be there.

I just had a mental image of John arriving at this place, entering the
lobby, walking up to the concierge desk and asking, "Could you tell me
where the dumping station is located"?

Sorry John ... just kidding ... :-)

No, but I found a nice campground not too far away.

A short drive to a very nice looking golf course. Of course, they probably don't
allow walkers!

I would hope a place like that would have sewer hookups! :)

I'm glad the post was made, as I found this place:

It really is going on the list of places to hit next year.

Looks nice. We spent a few days in Asheville, NC on the return leg of
our summer land cruise and were very impressed with that whole western
NC area.

The place is isolated enough to make the spa "clothing optional" but
you really want to cover up your "deal" if you are sitting by the
fire.

That whole triangle of North Georgia, Tennessee and North Carolina is
nice if you like the mountains.
That North Carolina was about the middle of the houses we rented.

This was Georgia

Our trip to Tennessee was a while ago when our standards were a little
lower.
