Reagan spent too much money on dead end DoD projects. I suppose you
could say it was a down payment on bankrupting the Soviets but I think
they were on borrowed time, even without Star Wars.
I am also not sure we are better off without them. We traded Gorbachev
for Putin and inherited all of the factional fighting in the Bulkans.
I also wonder if we did the wrong thing pumping up OBL and his Taliban
gang in Afghanistan.
We should have just let the Soviets grind themselves down there.

Sometimes a dictator holding down terrorists is a good thing,
particularly if we can just watch from 8,000 miles away and stay out
of it.
