I haven't researched it but I'm thinking it had side hack gearing. The claim is that the top end was normally in the high 90mph range. It didn't matter to me. When I'd hit the 4 lane I'd WOT and let it hammer away, usually and according to the veglia speedo, about 73 was the top mph. Must be a story here http://gfretwell.com/ftp/New%20Zeala...ory%20here.jpg Problem these days with new motorcycles is the power. Talking to my daughters neighbor last weekend. He said his buddy, a chief Master Sargent told him they are losing more soldiers from motorcycle deaths than from combat. They figure they are immortal after returning from the Middle East and buy a new bike. And off the showroom floor these days you buy 170+ mph bikes for a couple hundred down. You think you are any less dead in a 100 mph motorcycle crash, eh? Dead is dead. But a lot easier to get dead on a bike with 3 times the power of that 100 mph bike. My 350 Kawasaki rotary valve did 90. Took a while to get there. Unlike it's big brother the 3 cylinder version. That would go from 0-120 and never get the front wheel on the ground. |
