We have them right in the City. I used to hear them at night when I was loading cars at the now defunct Talbotville Assembly Plant. They would sit out in the field and yip away.
Nothing new here, anyway.

The problem here is the DEP in CT and other agencies seem to try to
cover up or ignore these types of reports till it makes the news. I am
not really sure why, but they just don't like to admit there is a bear
or other animal near humans.

According to several sources there are coyotes in every county in the
lower 48 states. They are even living in New York City, Chicago, Detroit
and other bigger cities.

Our old house up north was only 5 miles outside the New York City
limits. We spotted coyotes in the neighborhood several different
times, as well as the usual crop of deer, raccoons, skunks, rabbits,
etc.

They need to be taken out. Yes they are a good size wild dog, that is
usually afraid of humans, but obviously can encroach in urban areas.
If hungry enough they have be known to attack people and kill
children. (twice in my area in two years) And can also be a carrier
of rabies.

They're not the cute "woodland creatures" you think they are..

A den was found near where I used to live. At the entrance were found
several cat collars. Apparently coyotes find kittys are yummy.

Yup, we had a lot of stray cats disappear after the Coyotes showed up in
Essex. We had an old folks home down the road, turns out the residents
were feeding the "doggies" from the woods right in the back lot with
leftovers after every meal.

I am on the edge of urban wilderness. Turkeys, mountain lion, deer, fox,
coyotes.

A couple of years ago I was walking on a local nature trail well within the boundary of my city. It is a wooded area and a couple of coyotes were pace with pace with me as I walked the trail. It was late spring and my thinking was they had pups nearby and they wanted to make sure I stayed away from them. They were not threatening just keeping a wary eye on me.
