This is just a way to sidestep the ATF short barrel rifle law. You
notice they call those stumpy stocks a "brace" too. Some of these
things accept AR style accessories so you could put a telescoping M4
shoulder stock on most of them but you are then making a "hold your
nose legal" gun illegal.
I think they make these things, just because they can and I am not
really sure what they are good for.

One of the guys I occasionally see out in Virginia has one of those AR
type pistols. I shot a few rounds out of it once. I agree...I have no
idea what they are good for, aside from bragging rights.

Seems to be true of pretty much all the AR type guns. Bragging rights. About what, I
don't know.

They are astually a decent hunting rifle for anything up to the size
of a wild boar or so.

Would that not be true of the Ruger Mini-14 also?

I'd certainly think so but the question was about AR-15 types. I
think a lot of states limit hunting guns to a 5 round magazine so that
could be an issue either way.

With the right bullet it would certainly take down wood chucks and you
could take the head off a turkey. I am sure a deer would bleed out
without too much of a chase but I think I would want something a tad
heavier if I was shooting at a ****ed off 400 pound tusker coming at
me..

Not to be nit pickin', but he did say 'up to', not 'up to and including'. :)

They make is sound like most rifle bullets will not go through both
sides of the level III-A vest..
You really need a ballistic plate to stop a rifle and even then, not
all rifles.

Are there any handguns set up for the .223/5.56 (M855) round?

Several but this may be ugly enough to attract their attention

Wow, hadn't seen that one yet. For 'target shooting and hunting'. Wonder how long
before someone sells a front handgrip for the thing.

Whoops. Should have known:

You can't really understand the depth of Harry's greatness unless you
studied 4 years of Latin in high school and wrote 20 page book
reports. You'd think that with talent and training like that he would
have gone to Harvard or Princeton on a full scholarship.

Or at least had enough business sense to not go bankrupt twice...

I wouldn't want to try to tap one charging at me either. A 12g. slug would be more suitable for that task. but It would easily take a wild boar down if you casually whacked it. Especially if you could get the pig behind the ear.

Don't forget about the quick follow up shots.

Because of the high velocity they have a lot of striking power.
