It got so cold here last night that my banana trees and bougainvillea wilted. Supposed to be 80 tomorrow, though. I didn't even lost my coconuts and they are not as tough as bananas. The bananas are fine too, My recording thermometer said 36F. We had a high of 42 today. it was kind of nice actually. no breeze and a lot of sun. It's gonna be back in the teens and low 20's this coming week. Couldn't believe the temp this AM - at 7:30 it was over the freezing mark. === It's 65 and sunny here in SWFL with a high of 80 forecasted. I'm going out for a spin in the Searay later on when it starts to warm up. How's the Mosin Nagant shooting going? I've received the sniper version. Haven't shot it yet. At least I can see the reticle in the scope and the target very clearly. Now I need to figure out, for a 25yard target, where the crosshairs should be aimed to zero the gun for a 100 yard target. Will give that a shot Monday. -- Guns don't cause problems. The behavior of certain gun owners causes problems. |

Meanwhile I've been given a loaner M-1 Garand in nice condition. It feels very similar to an M-14 which I have always liked. Ammo is much more expensive than the Mosin however. |

Maybe if you were in Russia, you could buy US Army surplus ammo at a greatly reduced price! There's an M1 Garand for sale at the shooting range. Beautiful. Looks like it just came out of the box. But, $1650 is a bit too steep for me. I'd probably do better with the Ruger range rifle, like YKW. -- Guns don't cause problems. The behavior of certain gun owners causes problems. |

Ammo is much more expensive than the Mosin however. It is the reason why I went for the M1A over a cheaper M1. 7.62x51 is commodity ammo, 30-06 is almost a boutique caliber. There is lots of hunting ammo around at about a buck a shot but not much surplus. What are you shooting with those heavy caliber rifles? Balloons? Five liter soda bottles? Armor plate? Alligators? What do you need an assault rifle for? We have heard about it endlessly here. Why, I need my AR to shoot steel targets and 2 liter sodapop bottles at 100-200 yards and more, with relatively inexpensive brass ammo at .26 to ..30 a round, usually. -- Proud to be a Liberal. |
