I've given up on it for the time being. It's not a particularly fun
gun to shoot, at least not for me. Meanwhile I've been given a loaner
M-1 Garand in nice condition. It feels very similar to an M-14 which
I have always liked. Ammo is much more expensive than the Mosin
however.

Maybe if you were in Russia, you could buy US Army surplus ammo at a greatly reduced
price!

There's an M1 Garand for sale at the shooting range. Beautiful. Looks like it just
came out of the box. But, $1650 is a bit too steep for me.

I'd probably do better with the Ruger range rifle, like YKW.

Just came downstairs after a session of reaching out a 2nd story
window to clear snow/ice from the roof of the addition We put on in
2002/03 for mom.
I had gone out and brought the round mouth shovel ( that's creating
such a stir in JohnnyMop and his raggedy little band of moppetts) into
the house to increase my reach. Expecting rain and then another flash
freeze tomorrow.
When will it ever end?

Is it really round nosed or is it what is called a garden spade?

If it's round he probably isn't taking care of it right :) Either way, I
will get in on this, we had to do our roof yesterday, it wasn't so bad.
I have a small snow blower we lift right up there and that helps a lot.
Still don't shovel our driveway though, folks complain but hey, they
don't live here and I got a 4x4 with moderately aggressive tires so I
just blast through :)

What's with the name calling, Mr. Krause

He doesn't call names any more, remember?

I only refer to you as Colonel Klink when you post a snarky remark about
someone.

Ahhh. You only snark and name call when snarked upon. Sounds reasonable
WAFA. (that wasn't a snark)

It is the reason why I went for the M1A over a cheaper M1. 7.62x51 is
commodity ammo, 30-06 is almost a boutique caliber. There is lots of
hunting ammo around at about a buck a shot but not much surplus.

What are you shooting with those heavy caliber rifles? Balloons? Five

Probably the same things you shoot with your 357's

What do you need an assault rifle for?
We have heard about it endlessly here.

Why, I need my AR to shoot steel targets and 2 liter sodapop bottles at
100-200 yards and more, with relatively inexpensive brass ammo at .26 to
..30 a round, usually.

My recording thermometer said 36F.

We had a high of 42 today. it was kind of nice actually. no breeze and a
lot of sun. It's gonna be back in the teens and low 20's this coming week.

Well, I couldn't find a roof (snow) rake anywhere. So, I made one.
Problem is it's only long enough to reach about halfway up the
roof on the cabana.

First, to get out there, I had to re-shovel a path out to the cabana.
I can't believe how much snow is out there. I stopped at one point
and got a tape measure. Snow was 51 inches high in the area I was
shoveling and standing.

Anyway, got out to the cabana and cleared about half of the snow on
the front. That's a far as I could reach with my make-shift rake.

I then shoveled a path out behind the cabana, hoping to see that
the backside that sees the sun wasn't as bad. Wrong. It was
worse.

Screw it. Bring on the snow and rain. We have insurance.

Be careful. I heard of one guy that let his snow removal tools get

Richard, I feel for you. We've had about 18 inches of snow this year
and thats pittance compared to yours.

Right now I'd take a once a month 18 inches any day. 18" has become a
"nuisance" snowfall relatively, LOL.

The general Boston area has had over 98 inches so far with most of it
being on the south shore were we are. The all time record is just over
107 inches.

But, again, all but 5.5 inches have been in this month. It's
ridiculous. The piles of snow at intersections are so high you
can't see what traffic is on the road. People are flashing lights
and sounding the horn as they slowly pull out onto a road.

I hear you. It got so cold here last night that my banana trees and
bougainvillea wilted. Supposed to be 80 tomorrow, though.

I am out in the boat fishing. Flat calm, temp dropping. Had to be on a
long sleeve shirt. Supposed to be possible rain tomorrow. Very much
needed.

Rain and/or fog. Bill, isnt' that the norm for you this time of year?

We get tule fog this time of year. The fog that comes from the ground.
Not as much as years ago. I think it is the increase in population
covering over a lot of the farmland. We are actually sub desert, and get
most of our rain this time of year. Unfortunately, no rain in Feb. We get
a lot more fog in the Bay Area in the summer. The 100+ inland temps pull
in the offshore fog bank.
