I wonder if he'll have it stuffed or I'm sure there are ready buyers for it.

Man that's a lot of fish!

===

It sure is. I'd really like to catch a big fish someday but it would
be difficult from our boat, especially with just the two of us on
board. You'd really like to have an experienced person at the helm to
back the boat down and keep the fish positioned properly, along with
another two or three people to help out in the cockpit.

With enough inducement, perhaps Tim and I would fly down and be 'mates' to help you
drag it in.

Have to be honest, I wish it were a 'catch and release' operation.

Why would anyone decent want to catch a fish like that?

The question is, 'why not release it'? Catching it would be a hell of a thrill, if
the thing could be released without too much harm.

These guys seem to have the right attitude. Although I don't necessarily agree with
the 'record catch' scenario.

Why catch a fish like that at all, or even try? The act of catching it
puts a terrific strain on the fish.

I suppose the same could be said for all the rockfish you've caught, no?

You can't really put a sign on the lure saying 'Big Fish - Stay Away'.

Gave up fishing years ago for the same reasons I never hunted. I have no
problems with subsistence fishing or hunting, which I define as engaging
in those activities to put food on your table. I give commercial fishers
a pass on this, as I do those who raise beef, chickens, whatever, as
ranchers or farmers. I'm against killing animals for "sport." There's no
"sport" involved.

Is your back sore yet?

Some folks just haven't reached your level of perfection. They're not the 'beau
ideal' you are.

There you go again, Colonel Klink. Unlike you, I'm not telling anyone
what to do. I'm simply offering my opinion. Feel free to disagree, but
why get snotty about it, eh?

Harry, when Luddite and I were having the airplane discussion, did you not inject a
snarky comment whenever you had the chance? To you, snarky comments seem to be a one
way street - always directed towards you, as though you would never utter such a
thing. You call names and in the same sentence ask why someone would get snotty.

Now, back in Bozo's Bin. I've got to walk my dogs.

When you come across a dog poop on the sidewalk, doesn't it make you
think of Krause?

===

Not really; there's something honest about dog poop. It never
pretends to be something that it isn't.

:-)

Smoked marlin is about the only way it tastes good.

I have never heard of anyone eating a marlin or a tarpon.

35 years ago on the charter we took out of Hattaras the captain told
us, if we got a billfish up to the boat, we could get a picture and if
we wanted a mount he would get the measurements but we were turning
the fish loose.
Virtually all of those "mounts" are just fiberglass replicas anyway.
They don't skin and stuff the fish.
The "tarpon" guys I know don't kill the fish either. Actually my
neighbor was saying you could catch a tarpon right now in the north
end of Estero Bay, near Hendry Creek. Probably nothing close to record
size but even a 4' one will put on a show for you.

I really don't fish at all but I do watch fish and I am sure I could
go get some if I wanted to. I have thought about taking the hook off
of a spoon or a spook and seeing if I could get a hit or two.
If a fish nails a plug, you know you had him if you wanted him.

Japanese acquaintance had the smoked marlin. The only time they really
keep a billfish in Baja is if dies during the catch. When I caught tarpon
in Costa Rica, Luis said they only keep if the fish dies. Is ok fare, but
mostly they give to poor without much food. He said there are a lot of
good eating fish in CR. Tarpon is not high up the list.

Wasn't too long ago that you were catching fish on circle hooks. And I
don't think you cared much about stressing fish. My how times have
changed. Trying to get yourself in Gods good graces?

No, he's just a troll.

Tells you what I know. Come to think of it, I've seen some big mounts and now that you mention it, they do look like some painted plastic manikin.
