I've dug two 4 ft holes recently and hit water in both places. |

I frequently stared in wonderment at the standards for commercial construction in Florida. After Hurricane Andrew, I went down there with a small team of engineers to help research and write a report. Everyone expected to see jerry-built stick houses and apartments blown over, but we were amazed at the number of large tip-up concrete structures that were blown flat. Codes and inspections supposedly were tightened after that, but I wonder. A decade later, I was out north of Clearwater out on two public school sites and a generating plant under construction and was again amazed by the engineers I was with who were pointing out really serious code violations. The explanation was that "the fix" was in. Probably still is, eh? -- Proud to be a Liberal. |
