I'm heading out to a local range shortly, where my old "shootin' buddy" from Virginia is meeting me so I can play around with his Walther PPQ M2 that he bought this past summer. I really want some time with it to see if the trigger is really as good as everyone says. I normally do not like striker-fired pistols, but this one is supposed to be in a category of its own. If I like it, I might buy one in 2015. It's this one, the 5" model in 9mm: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ydIg...U&spfreload=10 I've had two striker-fired pistols, one of which was supposed to be the S&W 'Pro' version. I'll not buy another again. Well, if your problem with striker-fired pistols is at least partly because of the trigger, I agree. The ones I've fired, even the Glock I owned, had too long a pull for my taste, considerable "slack," and an annoyingly long reset. I really prefer SA pistols with hammers, like the SIG and CZ I had. That being said, I really liked the striker-fired Walther I tried out this morning. The initial pull wasn't too long, it felt smooth and it engaged smartly, the reset was very short, and the subsequent trigger pulls were very short and crisp. I fired six 15-round mags through it of standard quality 115 and 124 grain ball ammo. Recoil through the 5" barrel was negligible, and muzzle flip to me seemed about the same as a Glock, more than on the all-steel CZ I had, but not bad. The sights were nothing special. Pricey for a polymer pistol. Gotta pay for the James Bond image. The Bond character used several different guns in the novels (and movies) but the most famous was the Walther PPK. He never used a PPQ M2 (as far as I know). I have the PPK/2. Basically holds one more round than the original PPK. It's my favorite (and most accurate) handgun of the few that I own. The Walther PPK is also reportedly to be the handgun that Hitler committed suicide with by shooting himself in the temple while chomping down on a cyanide capsule at the same time. Of course, but just the name 'Walther' brings James Bond to mind. If it came in 9mm (luger) I might look at it. This one looks interesting: http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/product_info.php/cPath/21_55/products_id/84630/Walther+Arms+5030300+PPKS+.22+22LR+3.35%22+10%2B1+ Black+Synthet Bond's Walther was a .32 variant, the 7.65×17mm Browning. There's really nothing "pussified" about .22LR. I recall reading in several places that it is the round that has killed more people (in civilian life) than any other, and the .380 is significantly stronger. |
