....the great (in size) white hope of the GOP proves he is an ass...
A Letter from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health Dean Klag to Governor Chris Christie October 27, 2014 Governor Chris Christie Office of the Governor P.O. Box 001 Trenton, NJ 08625 Dear Governor Christie, I am writing to indicate in the strongest possible terms my objection to your policy of a 21-day quarantine for health care workers traveling from West Africa to New Jersey and, especially, its application to our graduate Kaci Hickox. Kaci spent six weeks in Sierra Leone with Doctors Without Borders/ Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), treating patients with #Ebola. She has tested negative for Ebola and, according to news reports, has no symptoms. She poses no risk to her fellow citizens. While I applaud your concern for the health of the citizens of New Jersey and recognize your responsibility to protect their health, I do not think that this policy does so. Instead, it increases paranoia without materially protecting health. Instead, I ask that you follow the current CDC guidelines, as we do for our faculty, staff or students who are returning from working in West Africa. Thank you for your consideration of this request to do what is right for the citizens of the United States and for the people of West Africa. Sincerely, Michael J. He stated that at the time of his order she *had* demonstrated potential early symptoms (fever) according to health officials and had not been tested. It turns out that the readings taken with the non-contact thermometer were questionable in terms of accuracy. She may have been flushed due to agitation and frustration. Point is, Christie was acting based on the information available to him at the time. |

Point is, Christie was acting based on the information available to him at the time. Christie was acting out of politics, not because of science. As usual. Of course he was. That's what he is supposed to do as a politician and governor of his state. He has to rely on the medical and/or scientific community to define what public safety measures are required. Right now anyone (and there have been several) who exhibits potential symptoms, has recently returned from affected areas in Africa or who has been in contact with an infected person are immediately quarantined and tested for an Ebola infection. That's the protocol recommended by the medical experts. Once cleared, the quarantine was lifted. He has stated that had the nurse not exhibited any symptoms, his policy would have been to allow her to return to Maine and self-monitor. That's also the CDC and general medical recommendation also. The fact that the nurse threatened a law suit is what is making it now a political issue. |

CDC has been making it up as they went along and the only non-medical person in the US who had ebola, died from it but not before endangering a whole apartment building. The medical people knew exactly what they had and demanded specific treatment so they survived. If this got loose in a poor neighborhood in New York or New Jersey, it could get real ugly, real fast. I know this is hard to transmit but there are an estimated 30,000 people in West Africa who died from it so it isn't that hard. And after the Coast Guard and IBM, Greg went to medical school. And you did? He has a mate who's name is prefixed by Dr. |

I'm formally edu-ma-cated enough to know that I don't have a medical school or public health background, and therefore I am not equipped by knowledge or experience to make the sorts of uninformed medical pronouncements on Ebola the Gregster makes. What I do know is that getting your conservatrash Republicans to approve funding to take on Ebola wasn't easy.
