Looks like I'm chicken and we are just gonna' pay someone to come in and
pull this old well. The guy is interested in how the heck my dad managed
to hook up down there without coming to surface with the pipe and
wires.. kept saying, "he shoulda' got rich on that, whatever he did down
there" and this sounded like a guy at least in his 60's so he's been
around...

Take some pictures when he gets down to it.

It sure is easier in a place where water doesn't freeze.

Wouldn't the pipe that supplies the house be below the frost line?

I will let you all know... Still gonna' have to dig anyway so we will be
there. Personally I bet it's as simple as a elbow and threaded pipe
right through the casing to the house.. the pipe sticking out of the
ground might be attached, but it doesn't carry water above the freeze
level, again is my guess...

Certainly it has to be up north, just not so much here.
Pipes here just have to be deep enough not to be broken when you drive
the mower over them. Mine are 18", just because that is how deep the
electric has to be and they are in the same trench.
They come out of the well casing above grade.

My question to Scotty is how they got out of the well casing 3 feet or
more down and still have the well cap above grade.

I think his "well guy" is asking the same thing.

I am still wondering if that pipe we see is the well pipe and it has a
"T" below grade. Was it capped?
Maybe they were counting on trapped air in the top to keep it from
freezing. That is why I wanted to see what happened if he dropped a
string down it.
If I was closer, I would loan him my 10 meter bore scope camera.


The pipe coming out of the cap is not capped off. It's open. I am again
pretty sure we are just gonna' find that it hooks to a tee or elbow
where the pipe and wire come out, below ground (4 feet) but stopped off
down the pipe somewhere. Or it could be attached to nothing, just a vent
in the cap...
