Occasionally they will post a sign for slower traffic to keep right some times but it is usually too ambiguous to charge. The most likely place it might draw a ticket would be in a designated passing zone like you see in the mountains out there. If you are just out on the interstate, I doubt you would even get a finger wag from a cop unless you were slowing him down. Back in the olden days in Maryland, when I was monitoring the cops in my car, I heard the question several times "what is the statute number for cruising in the passing lane" and the answer was always "no such charge". Once in a while, they do tag them. Not enough times. Impeding traffic is the charge. |

And if you want to see what I used to drive at 160+ MPH, look at the first Herby movie. I am the driver of the 64 coupe, silver corvette in the Laguna Seca race sequence. ****, you probably have problems driving 50kphh (33 mph)!! |

It was a ticket if you were not staggered a little. I believe the only state in which it's legal is California. That's how they can get away with 'white lining'. Not legal here. But you see cops doing lots of the time. The white lining, is not legal as you see it most of the time. Supposed to be 15 mph or less. Not 80 mph in 70 mph traffic. That's the way the laws read in Europe also. There's not much white lining at 70mph over there though. I love driving in Europe. Better drivers. They know to stay in the right lane, unless passing. And the cops get people just driving in the passing lanes. The European drivers are very disciplined, and it makes driving there, especially on a motorcycle, a joy. And you're right about the passing. Passing on the left is not done, and going slow in the fast lanes is also 'ticketable' if blocking traffic. Whoops...change 'left' to 'right'. |
