the first time we had a real test of several hours for it. Everything

When Arthur arrived here, they we're calling it a post tropical, but now they've changed it to Extra Tropical due to the bumping into/merging with a strong cold front from the west.
Result was much stronger winds on the western side of the storm which hammered New Brunswick.
Here in the city a large number of tree branches came down but minimal rain.

I haven't driven down the nearby road where the tree branches usually
knock down the power lines. We had a modest amount of rain overnight.
Pretty scary for the local power company guys to be out fixing downed
lines at night and in a storm. Not something I would want to do for a
living.

Glad you survived the emergency ok. The only way I'd know we had a
temporary power outage after midnight would be the blinking display on
the microwave in the morning.

What alerted you? The sound of the generator starting up?

Three of the roads that carry feeder lines in our area are lined with
all manner of trees, including some that look as if they would fall over
if you ran a bicycle into them. The streets are pretty, but you just
know by looking at them that when the wind blows, those boughs are going
to break, and take out the 'lectricity.

The two major power companies up here have been on a major trimming
program for the past year or so. We received notices about the work to
be done that explained the right of way for power lines, etc., even if
it involved trees on your property.

The work has been welcomed by just about everyone because it was long
overdue. The benefit is very rare power outages and those that do occur
are usually due to a car accident and don't last long.

FPL has a no nonsense policy on trees. If they are in or over the
right of way, they are gone.
Every spring crews in bucket trucks, and a box truck towing an
Asplundah machine drive around whacking trees.


Oh, we have some of that, too. Just not enough. The utils have a
right-of-way, but they don't seem to do much to keep their wires and
trees out of each other's clutches.
