But either way, I am almost ready to start my newest boat, just started buying wood last night. It's a 16 foot Whaler in plywood, loosely designed to mimic a classic 13 foot Boston Whaler Hull. Amazingly the hull will cost a dollar a pound and it will weigh just about 500 pounds (plus tax ![]() Unlike my Camper design this hull is not dependent on the weight of the wood so I will build it of exterior plywood and doug fir. It will be a self jigging boat, if I was at my shop I could knock it off in a week... but we will see how I do with the neighbors and how much flack I get from the town... === Cool, keep us posted. Are the sketch plans online anywhere? Here, check this out. http://rowdymouseracing.com/whaler.html It is not supposed to be a huge "development" in hulls except that it is a somewhat complex hull that can be self jigged and built in about 30-40 man hours, for less than 500 bucks. When it's done it will weigh less than 500 pounds and be 16 feet by 6 1/2. I was really looking to create a planing hull that would take little gas, and be as dry as a low sided boat can possibly be at speed. It is a protected water boat as are most of my designs, meant for partying and playing on the river or lake, fishing, sunning, and just hangin' out... |
