True jazz players typically use something much smaller. The last concert we had included a jazz guitar player who plays with the Boston Pops. His amp was a little thing, about 12" by 12" by 4". Class A, 5 watts with simple, on/off and volume controls. Obviously we mic'd it through the mixing board to go through the PA system.
